Porsche Cayenne Pepper???

I have to be honest, every time I come across a Porsche Cayenne, my eyes burn a bit from the sight of the Porsche badge on such an ugly Porsche manufactured car.  I know I'm not alone in this given all of the press the Porsche Cayenne has gotten over the last 7 or 8 years since the vehicle was announced.  I still remember the first time I saw the car in person.  I did a double take (as most people probably did) trying to determine if this was REALLY what Porsche turned out.  British Site TopGear.com's verdict sums my feelings up nicely:

Testament to the compelling business case for the SUV, the Porsche Cayenne is a ghastly diversion from the Porsche purist path that has made the company so much money it’s never looked back. Ugly, expensive, pointless… and everywhere.  [Read More]

I definitely am not trying to offend those of you who love the Cayenne.  Everyone likes different shapes and styles.  My wife hates 928s.  Says they look like Gremlins.  I personally still have a thing for them.  Nor do I consider myself a Porsche purist.  I love pretty much all of the models along with hacked up versions displaying Porsche maniac's creativity.

But when I come across the Cayenne, I can't help but wonder what Porsche was thinking.  The car really doesn't have the beautiful lines of the traditional Porsche model.  Sure the "performance" is there in some way, shape or form.  The car is luxurious (beyond a typical Porsche) and gives the impression of Porsche from the inside.  It just seems like it shouldn't carry the Porsche badge given it's external appearance.  Perhaps I wouldn't feel the same way if the Cayenne had a Volkswagon or a Mercedes badge on the hood.

Feel free to call me crazy or wholeheartedly agree.  I'm curious to see what other's opinions are about the Porsche Cayenne.  Especially after having them around for a number of years.

If you like SUV's like most people seem to, I think the Cayenne is ok. I would drive one if I wanted to pay that much for a SUV in the first place.

Its not ugly to me and i understand Porsche thinking…Simply created to get SUV market share. However, Some companies make SUV`s, others make economy cars, Yet others are sports car creators whether mass or specialty.Resist the urge to lose your definition. Car companies can risk getting bloated trying to chase other markets. The Cayenne being porsche engineered is a quality vehicle, ..but…

Should the term "truck" also apply to SUVs?
