This is an interesting approach. We’ve all seen the spy shots floating around. Porsche, along with other car manufacturers, attempt to hide new models while they put their cars through real world tests. Porsche, this time, kept a bunch of the camo on their new Porsche 911, the Porsche 991, but let a select group of media have access to the car to experience it prior to the official unveiling. I like that approach.

Scheduled to be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September, the new Porsche 911, the 991 series, promises to propel the 911 model to the next level. The car takes advantage of technology Porsche has been experimenting with, which have also shown up on other recent models. Here are a few of the highlights:

Wider and longer wheelbase than the current 997 model

Lower stance with a more severely raked windshield

3.4 liter engine cranking out 350 hp, with the S model hitting 3.8 liters and 400 hp

Two 7 speed transmission options in the form of an improved PDK dual clutch version or a “manually controlled single clutch version of the PDK”

Initial 0-60 mph times in the 4.5 second range

Top speed of 186 mph

According to Car & Driver, August Achleitner who is Porsche’s head of the 911 range indicated the 991 in “best setup” form ripped around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes, 37 seconds. For comparison, the 911 GT2 RS makes the trip in 7 minutes, 18 seconds.

A new iteration of the Porsche 911 always gets me excited. I love hearing the reviews, the newcomers to the 911 series that get excited about owning one and the die hard 911 fans who hate every new model. It’s always unbelievable how far the 911 has come and how long it has lasted. Makes you wonder sometimes how much farther it can go.

It’s hard to believe I’ve hit 200 posts already. I was trying to figure out what would be good for this milestone and decided to just highlight a few of my favorite posts from the last few months.

Blue Sky…Blue Porsche – I love this shot. I could sit and stare at it all day.

Drive a Porsche for Free – I know it has a potentially big downside, but the concept of driving a Porsche for darn near free is pretty intriguing. I still think it could be done and would love to see someone try it.

GT3 Reaction Video - One of my favorite videos. It focuses on something you never see, the reactions of people going for a ride in a GT3. The GT3 has also moved up the ranks for me to Ultimate Car status.

Memory Lane: Porsche Magazine Covers #2 – Another one that’s picture based, but I still think about this car from time to time to this day. I would love to own a midnight blue slant nose at some point in my life.

New Member of the PorschePerfect.com Family Has Arrived! - It was awesome to post the culmination of a lot of looking and nearly 25 years of dreaming.

“Outlaw” Porsche 356: The Ultimate Tough Customer – Another car I can’t stop thinking about. The Outlaw 356 pictured at the top is still one of my favorite customized 356 models. Would really like to do an Outlaw 356 some day.

There are a ton more that could easily qualify as favorites. In the end, the entire PorschePerfect.com blog has been a blast from the very start. I’d like to say a quick “THANKS” to all of the readers. Keep up the great reading!

I’m venturing to guess that I’m not the only one who loved the movie Top Gun. I’d also be willing to bet that the movie propelled the 356 Speedster into more hearts than just mine (even though it WAS a replica). I remember thinking “I love this car!” every time I saw the movie. At one point I started searching trying to figure out what kind of car it was as I was still relatively new to Porsches back then.

Since that movie, I’ve loved 356 Speedsters and couldn’t believe it when Porsche unveiled a 911 Speedster at the 1988 Franfurt Auto Show. With only 2100 built, and only 800 of which came to America, it’s been rare to see one for sale. I’ve only seen maybe one or two 911 Speedsters in person. I’d still love to find one to own someday provided you could pick it up for a reasonable price.

When I started seeing spy photos of the 998 Speedster, it reminded me of my love for the Speedster as a Porsche icon over the years. The Speedster name is used on convertibles with cut-down windshields, lowered roofs and stripped-down interiors. With the last publicly available Speedster being available about 15 years ago, this would be a very desirable and potentially collectible must-have model.

I’m hoping we’ll see a new Speedster model in the lineup before long. If you’d like to see some more photos, Autoweek has some cool spy photos and a few thoughts on the latest Speedster rendition.

I, like most kids, grew up fantasizing about exotic cars. Everything from Lamborghinis and Ferraris to Porsches and Rolls Royces. I especially loved trips to California, particularly the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills areas where you stood a better than average chance of seeing these amazing rides in person.

The Porsche “bug” bit me hard when I was 15. A friend of mine and I pulled into the local Porsche dealership to kill some time. One thing led to another and the next thing I knew, I was behind the wheel of a gorgeous 944 on a test drive on some back country roads. At least I had my learner’s permit.

From that point on, I was hooked on Porsches and decided I had to own one. I started buying every single magazine that had any reviews or news about Porsche cars and even subscribed to the then brand new Porsche Magazine (now Excellence Magazine). It took me a long time, consequently, to get rid of most of those magazines (my wife would love it if I would finish the job).

Fast forward to today…I have yet to own a Porsche. I’ve come close to ownership via a swap of a Honda Accord for a Porsche 944, driven a number of friend’s Porsches over the years, and even visited the Porsche factory in Stuttgart, Germany. But so far, I haven’t made good on my decision to own one. I’m hoping that will change in the near future.

I’ve decided that it’s time to stop waiting. I’m going to start looking for my first Porsche. This blog will serve to document that journey a bit, but more than that, provide an opportunity for me to share my thoughts, tips and general adoration for these cars.
