GEMBALLA Brand Coming Back To Life
An interesting press release landed in my box this morning. It was titled "A Fresh Start for the GEMBALLA Brand" and was from a PR firm in Germany. They got me there and I read the entire thing. It seems someone has snatched up the GEMBALLA name and some of the assets and hopes to breath new life into the brand. Not a bad plan given the 30 year history of the brand and the instant name recognition. They probably secured what they needed for pennies on the dollar.
Misha Design Spices Up The Porsche 911 Turbo
Misha, a Porsche tuner I hadn't previously heard of, has released a new kit for the Porsche 911 Turbo (997). It's a body kit that has a number of different options depending on your budget and desired outcome. Here's a quick list of what they replace:
Supercars Exposed: Porsche Tuner TECHART
This was a great episode of Supercars Exposed. I'm not a big Tanner Foust fan, but he drives some amazing TECHART tuned Porsches and shows some behind the scenes footage of the tuning facility. There's some other great rides in there as well. Definitely worth watching. Thanks for sending it over, Lyndon!
Porsche 944 Batmobile
Lyndon sent me a link to this classified listing. I'm not really sure what to say about it, so I'm just going to let the pictures do the talking. This car is a customized 1985 Porsche 944 by one heck of an avid Batman fan. It's located up in Canada and offered for sale for $6,500. Here's some of the ad description:
858 HP Porsche By Sportec
Thanks to Lyndon, one of our PorschePerfect.com readers, for sending this link over. Some of the numbers tuners are getting out of the Porsche 911 are just mind boggling. When you start getting up to 600, 700, 800 or even 1,000 horsepower, you're talking a world most of us will never experience. I can't imagine having that much power on tap. Maybe some of you can shed light on what it would even be like to drive a car with that much power on the open road.
Calling All Porsche Enthusiasts
This is a bit of a unique request, but I figure there are lots here who wouldn't mind helping a fellow Porsche enthusiast. Especially one looking to add a little something to a 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo!
Three…ummm…interesting Porsches
World's Worst Cayenne
The first is a bastardized Porsche Cayenne. A reader on Jalopnik.com came across an older Asian man that was literally supergluing fake rhinestones onto his Porsche Cayenne in the parking lot of a store. He had already added reflective tape, thermometers, compasses, pins, badges and lights as part of his customization treatment.
Jet Engine Powered Porsche 928
An email from Brad usually means something interesting. This week was no exception. He sent me a link to a blog post titled "Asinine or Awesome?". I'll answer the question before I give you the reference: ASININE! In fact, I don't see much difference between this and the hicks beating the crap out of the Porsche 928 I posted last year (Why Hicks Should Never Touch a Porsche). It just so happens, this atrocity was committed against yet ANOTHER 928.
It seems one Oregonian is expanding the "Keep Portland Weird" bumper sticker statement to the entire state. He has taken a 1982 Porsche 928 S and dropped in a Boing T-50 Turbine Engine. He completed the package with dual hood flame shooters.
Let me say again…ASININE.
Here are specs from the eBay auction (it was re-listed since it didn't sell the first time around: eBay Item #170507790267): Read more on Jet Engine Powered Porsche 928…
Porsche Panamera Stingray by TOPCAR
Seems like Porsche tuners love customizing the Porsche Panamera. Not sure if that's a good sign, or a bad one. Most of them have been pretty subtle. I'm waiting for that one Gemballa-like crazy tuned version of the Panamera. This one from TopCar is getting a bit closer.
Porsche 911 Turbo From Evolution Motorsports
This is a decent video in a stinkin fast 911 Turbo. 850 hp on racing fuel.
