porsche 356 speedster rebornI love rumors, well, at least the good kind. Especially when they pertain to future Porsche models. Lyndon recently sent me links to several blogs reporting a possible reborn Porsche 356 Speedster.

GEMBALLA Brand Coming Back To Life

An interesting press release landed in my box this morning. It was titled "A Fresh Start for the GEMBALLA Brand" and was from a PR firm in Germany. They got me there and I read the entire thing. It seems someone has snatched up the GEMBALLA name and some of the assets and hopes to breath new life into the brand. Not a bad plan given the 30 year history of the brand and the instant name recognition. They probably secured what they needed for pennies on the dollar.

Weekly Porsche Wrap

Porsche searches for oldest Porsche in the U.S. – Brad, a long time PorschePerfect.com reader, sent me a link to this last week (thanks Brad!). I'd just read the same thing myself. This is a great little celebration Porsche is doing in honor of their 60 year anniversary of their cars being in America. They're looking for the oldest Porsche here in the States. The selected winner will receive among other things, a special badge from the Porsche Museum, a photo of the car included in the American exhibit in Stuttgart, and possible inclusion in the Porsche exhibit at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Check out this link for more info: Porsche 60.

Gansevoort Hotels cart VIP guests around in style – The Gansevoort Hotel Group in New York City decided that they needed to kick their in-town car service and airport transportation up a notch. What better way than to car their VIP guests around in a Porsche Panamera 4S! With all of the luxury hotels vying for your business, this is definitely taking things to a new level in a small way. Would swing me to give them a shot. [Via PRNewsWire.com]

N. Technology Porsche Panamera scores a debut win in the series round – I'll admit, when I first mentioned this car a couple of weeks ago, I was a naysayer (Three…ummm…interesting Porsches). It seems the people over at N. Technology knew what they were doing turning their Porsche Panamera S into a race ready machine. They hooked themselves up with first place. That's pretty dang impressive. [Via CarAdvice.com]

25,000th Porsche Panamera Rolls Off The Line

I'm sure Porsche has meticulous record keeping along with tight, pre-planned production schedules that are set potentially years in advance, so this should not be a surprise to me. I'm always still a little surprised though when they announce different production milestones like this.

Porsche Green Lights Production of the Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid

A dang exciting day yesterday! As anticipated, the Porsche Supervisory Board green lighted the production of the Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid during it's meeting yesterday. The car will be developed in Weissach and assembled in Zuffenhausen. This is in line with Porsche's recent commitment to Germany as it's manufacturing base.

New Porsche CEO – I guess I've been living under a rock for the last week. I didn't realize that this inevitable transition had already taken place. Looks like Michael Macht got "promoted" (I didn't realize moving a person from CEO to a lesser position could be considered a promotion) to Volkswagen AG's production chief starting Oct 1st. Matthias Mueller has been crowned as the new Porsche AG CEO. Here's what VW CEO, Martin Winkerkorn, had to say about the transition: “We have to make progress with Porsche. Mueller is the right person to deliver it. He has excellent ideas and a very clear concept of how new products have to be brought in line.” He did a good job with Audi. Maybe this will bode well for Porsche. [Via BusinessWeek.com]

Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid Coming To US Soil

Saw this on the Porsche Press site this morning.  Looks like Porsche is going to race the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid in the 1,000 mile/10 hour American Le Mans Series Finale Petit Le Mans. A showing on American soil! That'll be cool. If anyone has access to this race, you really need to send in some pics.
