Today I was checking out a site in the United Kingdom called Gumtree. It’s a Craigslist of sorts, only for the U.K. There’s all sorts of deals to be had in all the usual categories, but I was mostly looking in the used car category. One thing I like about the site is the number of listings from all over the U.K. Sometimes I get tired of switching cities on Craigslist, and the aggregation sites aren’t always the best user experience. But I digress.

Currently, there are just over 220 ads for Used Porsches listed on the site. Here are a few that I found to be Tempting Porsches for me.

Tempting Porsche #1

The first car on the Tempting Porsche list today is a 1991 Porsche 944 Turbo Cabriolet. It’s a unique color and a 944 cabriolet, let alone a turbo version, is not very common. Right around 70k on the odo. Looks like it even includes a cool vanity plate: D9 CAB. Here are a few more details from the listing:

mot&taxed estimated to be only 30 turbo cabriolets left on the road very collectable classic,£146 classic insurance, owned last 7 years and never a problem very reliable wee car also D9 CAB no plate in deal

I’m not sure about there only being 30 turbo cabs left on U.K. roads. Seems awful low.

Asking Price: £5,750 – Not bad, especially if this car is as rare as they’re claiming.

Tempting Porsche #2

Second car on the list today may seem boring, but I’d buy this in a heartbeat. It’s a 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera 4. Silver with black interior. The only thing I’m not in love with is the wheels. I’d change those out. The best part is, it’s a two owner car and has all of the service history included. That seems to be a rarity for these 10 year old plus cars.

Here is a bit more from the Gumtree ad:

Electric Sunroof, Air Con, Electric Seats, Sports Pack, Bluetooth. Full Main Dealer Service History from new, including every single bill and receipt. This car has been maintained regardless of cost. First owner was a lady and i purchased the car 3 years ago but third child unfortunately forces sale of a great car. 18 inch sport wheels as standard. Even comes with original bill of sale. Full porsche inspection when i purchased the car with pictures and detailed information on condition.

Asking Price: £16,995

Tempting Porsche #3

It’s no secret that I have a soft spot for the Porsche supercars of yesteryear. I’d love to own a Porsche 928, for example, which happens to be the third Tempting Porsche for today. This just looks like a straight up, clean 928S at a decent price. It’s a silver with black interior 1983 vintage. Looks like a single owner, which would be cool. Also is an automatic, so you can avoid the clutch problems that plagued the 928s.

Some more details from the ad:

Mileage: 47000
In-Car Audio: AM/FM Stereo, Cassette Player Service
History: Yes
Interior/Comfort Options: Climate Control, Cruise Control, Leather Seats, Power-assisted Steering (PAS), Power Seats, Power Windows, Sunroof, Tilt Steering Wheel
Safety Features: Alarm, Immobiliser, Rear seat belts

Asking Price: £2,800 – Seems very reasonable, especially given the low mileage and what looks like included service history.

Tempting Porsche #4

I wasn’t going to include this one, but decided at the last minute to add it. This particular Porsche 944 Turbo caught my eye because of the color. It’s turquoise! You just don’t see too many colors like this. It’s a 1991 car and has a white interior (which I’m definitely not in love with). Includes all the service history.

Jury’s still out for me on the color.

Here some more description:

For sale is this stunning Porsche 944 Turbo. This is the most powerful and most rewarding 944 that Porsche made boasting an impressive 250bhp.

This 944 benefits from the best engine in the range. To add to that this particular model has a very rare and unique colour scheme, the beauty of which cannot be fully appreciated from the pictures. The paint is called Tahoe Blue, a colour which, according to enthusiast forums, was only used on 8 944s in the UK. This should not be mistaken by the more common blue that is seen on other 944s. The wonderful paint is complemented by a luxurious full cream leather interior with blue piping which contrasts perfectly with the unique exterior colour.

This is a fine example of a charming and characterful classic which is a rare sight nowadays, especially in this top spec guise and in this condition. It has been lovingly cared for over its 21 year life which is reflected in its condition. See bottom of the listing for details of the comprehensive Porsche service history.

The car comes with the original Porsche leather folder which is full of receipts for work carried out over the years, as well as the original manufacturer’s handbooks and the fully stamped service book which runs consistently up to only a few thousand miles ago and is almost entirely Porsche main dealer and specialist stamped.

All old MOTs are present for the last 13 years.

The car was originally a 944 S2 but was converted to a Turbo model a few years ago. There are receipts amongst the extensive service history to the value of over £5,000 for the fitting of the Turbo engine along with a new Turbo clutch and Turbo brakes all the way round. The work was carried out by a highly reputable Porsche specialist.

Asking Price: £5,250

Check out the Gumtree.com second hand Porsche section for deals if you’re in the U.K. or some great dream fodder if you’re somewhere else in the world!

Today I’ve got a trio of Tempting Porsches. Found all of these in about 10 minutes on Craigslist. Crazy how many great cars are up for sale there.

Tempting Porsche #1

This is my favorite of the bunch. It’s not an actual 911 Turbo, but a Turbo Look with some engine modifications. The car is a 1975 Porsche 911 Turbo Look Slantnose. Light gray with black interior. It’s got 57k miles on it, although I’m guessing that’s after a rebuild (or two). Here are some more details from the ad:

I love this car, and the only reason that I’m selling it is because I’m becoming a father, and this is not really a practical “daddy” car.

The car has 57,xxx miles with a CLEAR TITLE. A new $12,000 engine was installed and has only 7,000 miles on it to date. I have all the records for this. This car is NOT TURBO. It is a 2.7 with 6 carburetors, high performance installed by Porsche and some other parts.

Runs and drives great. Fuel lines and the clutch are new. Has a set of 2004 wheels with new Dunlop tires, in excellent condition with about 95% rubber.

Moon roof works perfectly and does NOT leak. Doors, locks and mirrors are fine, power windows work just fine. All lights work.

Asking Price: $19,000

I LOVE the look of this car. This is one I would drive and enjoy all day long, even if it’s not turbocharged.

Tempting Porsche #2

Next up is a black, 1985 Porsche 911 Turbo. This one is an actual Turbo with 99k miles on the odometer. Great color and a great year. For classic Turbos, black and red are by far my favorite colors. Here is a description from the ad:

Wow! What an opportunity to own the real 1985 spec 930 Turbo. This car has all the pedigree and documentation that would make any Porsche enthusiast salivate. All records and upkeep with documentation of authenticity from Porsche Cars of North America. This is a “Real” car, not something that has been tracked or abused. Always garaged, never in the rain, and can run circles around anything in its way. Car has updated intercooler, clutch, and brand new Pirelli PZeros.

Asking Price: $26,950

Lulay’s (where the car is for sale) tends to get nice cars on their lot. Be a great car, especially if you could talk them down a few grand.

Tempting Porsche #3

Last one for today is, crazy enough, another Porsche 911 Turbo Look Slantnose. I swear I’ve only seen one or two other Turbo Look cars available in the Portland area the last couple of years, and maybe one other Slantnose. This one is a 1976 and claims to have a steel body conversion. Just 41k miles oner. White with black interior. From the ad:

1976 PORSHE 911 SLANT NOSE TURBO CLONE, 41K ORIGINAL MILES BY ONE SINGLE LOCAL OWNER!! PROFESSIONALLY CRAFTED IN METAL PARTS TO CREATE THE BEST SLANT-NOSE CLONE WE HAVE EVER SEEN!! EXTENSIVE SERVICE RECORDS WITH RECEIPTS, OVER $4,000 INVESTED LESS THAN 2000 MILES AGO, BRAKES, TIRES, FUEL INJECTORS, AC CONDENSER, SHIFT LINKAGE, PEDDLE BUSHINGS, BELTS, FUEL LINE, FUEL TANK RETURN LINE, REAR SWAY BAR, TRANSAXLE MOUNT, SHIFT COUPLER, WARM UP REGULATOR, FUEL PUMP, ALL HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH NEW!!!

Asking Price: $19,950

I’m not in love with the white, but this could also be a car that looks better in person than in the pictures. Still, a Turbo Look Slantnose…someday…

James O sent me some links a few days ago of Porsches he came across that were for sale. Only one of them had a price, and that was $385,000 for a 1987 Porsche 959! Some amazing cars here.

I’ve included the pictures and links to each of the cars. Check em out for more pictures and details.

Tempting Porsche #1 – 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort

This is probably my favorite of the bunch. I was telling James this is squarely on my Ultimate Porsche Car List, largely because I loved the car so much when I was a kid. I even remember writing a report on how amazing the Porsche 959 was. Funny thing is the teacher was a Ferrari fan and marked me down because I wrote about a Porsche.

Check out the car here: 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort.

Tempting Porsche #2 – 1969 Porsche 911 “Electric Banana”

A heck of a modified racing Porsche with some serious racing accoutrements.

Check out the car here: 1969 Porsche 911 “Electric Banana”.

Tempting Porsche #3 – 1987 Porsche 959

Yes, ANOTHER Porsche 959. I really debated between this and the red one. I like the understated silver with black wheels. Course, it’s not like I have to worry about choosing!

Check out the car here: 1987 Porsche 959.

Tempting Porsche #4 – 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster

I’m not sure how I feel about the mods on this one. I love the 80′s 911 Speedsters, but this one feels a little over the top. Some serious car/Porsche people involved with this car though.

Check out the car here: 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly 6 months since I did a Tempting Porsches post. It’s certainly not for a lack of desirable cars out there.

Today’s Tempting Porsche is a little different. This is definitely a dream car on my list to own some day. It’s a 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo (930) Slantnose. It’s black with black interior. Classic 80′s gold BBS spoke wheels. Reminds me of the car on the cover of Automobile Magazine I posted about almost 2 years ago (Memory Lane: Porsche Magazine Covers #2).

There’s a couple of things that make this car extra special and desirable. First, it’s a factory slantnose. It’s got option 505 which was a $23k option back in the day. Second, this car has ONLY 6k miles on it. Both of those together make for one heck of a car that is destined for someone’s collection.

Here are some details from the auction page:

This is a breath taking original 1987 Porsche 911 930 Turbo Slant Nose 6k mile survivor car that was purchased brand new in Tampa Florida at Reeves Import Motorcars on 8-13-1987 and it was sold directly by the management! On the Original Buyers Order it shows the salesman as “house”, I would imagine that because of how exotic and rare the car is that the higher ups at the Dealership wanted full control over how well the buyer was treated! The car was owned for a short amount of time in Las Vegas and then it was sold to the owners friend who lived back in Florida. We know the ownership history of the car very well, which is why we have the car, and this car has never been involved in an accident. The car has not been tracked or raced, it has been a hanger queen since day one and has never seen a day of bad weather. On an avg. scale of 44-70 for related cars of this year/make/model 1987 Porsche Turbo cars, this amazing car has an astronomical score of 82 on its AutoCheck Vehicle History Report. WOW, off the charts!

Even though we have confirmation from the prior owners that no damage was ever done to the car we carefully inspected the paint for its originality and integrity. To our delight the car appears to have original paint and it shows no signs of ever being repainted. In fact, for a 1987, this car shows stunningly well. After all, it does have 6k miles and once you feast your eyes on it you will be in agreement with us 100%. The paint, trim, glass, lights, wheels etc will appease the most meticulous buyer / collector. This car was not only garage kept but also under a cover of which we will be passing on to the next lucky owner. The only flaw worth mentioning and I realize this is minuscule, but the window tint shows its age a little bit. Obviously this could be very easily replaced. We believe that the tint is original to when the car was purchased so we will leave it as is. The underneath side of the car is free of any damage and it’s obvious that not even a bolt was turned, with exception to the motor for servicing obviously. Quite simply, this car belongs in a museum.

Inside the car you’ll immediately notice how well preserved it has been kept. In fact, Porsche seat covers were installed since day one, so good luck finding your typical wear and tear on these seats, it doesn’t exist! There was also a steering wheel cover installed so you won’t find any wear on it either. Both seat covers and steering wheel cover will be included with sale. The car was never smoked in and has no foul smells, there isn’t any reason for there to be. Again, with 6k original miles, this car will show extremely well and prove its pedigree inside and out!

The car is absolutely gorgeous from the pictures on the auction page. It’s currently at $16,500. The reserve hasn’t been met yet and I would expect it goes for above $50k…easily. Heck, maybe even more.

You should check out the pictures. There’s a ton of them and you just don’t see cars like this come up very often. Here’s a link to the auction page: Porsche 911 Turbo Slantnose.

Most of you probably already know I’m a dreamer. I think you have to have big dreams to run an exotic car site centered around a marque like Porsche. When a site like Oodle.com comes around, it’s pretty easy to get caught up dreaming about the cars they have represented on the site. In fact, I somehow just wasted an entire hour going through listing after listing of Porsches. I had planned to only spend a few minutes looking around!

If you haven’t heard of Oodle.com, they’ve been around for a while. They’re an aggregator of classified ads, with some new features that have been released recently. They’re a handy source when you’re looking for something used. Also, lots of people have successfully sold all manner of items through their site. Today though, I want to focus on the auto listings.

Regardless of what you’re looking for, chances are high that Oodle.com has it listed. From a new Porsche Panamera to a used Ford Focus. And everything in between. I suppose you could even find a used Geo Metro if that’s what really made your heart flutter. (I’d rather not see any comments about how you LOVE Geo Metro’s.)

A quick search of the site for Porsche yields over 20,000 results. I spent the first 20 minutes just going through listings. Here are a couple of that are honorary Tempting Porsche cars:

1965 Porsche 912 – Offered at $3,900. Here’s some info from the ad on Oodle.com: “The body is rust free, yet carries a C-grade ‘Bahama Yellow’ paint job that’s many years old. There are multiple flaws, such as small dings, scratches, and even some paint lifting. Still, the car is utterly presentable as it is; personally, we wouldn’t mind keeping and enjoying it exactly like this. The chrome wheels still sparkle and the tires are excellent.”

2001 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 – Offered at $23,999. A lot of you will not like the black wheels, but I like em. This one has just over 97k miles on it. Red with gray interior. Some other highlights from the ad are aftermarket 19″ wheels, never seen snow or salted roads, no known mechanical issues.

There are certainly sexier cars out there, but this one is not a bad looking ride. I love the darkened windows, although that’s probably a ticket waiting to happen in Oregon.

Those are just a couple of the “usual” cars. Course that led to digging into more exotic Porsches and eventually other exotics. In my search of the Porsche results, I ran across a Porsche 959 and it was game over. 40 minutes later I was still searching through cars and dreaming about all of the possibilities.

Here are a couple more results worth mentioning:

1987 Porsche 959 – The first is the Porsche 959 I mentioned coming across. This impeccable example was purchased new by a collector in Japan, then brought into the US at a later date. The car only has 9k miles on it. Here is a little more info from the ad: “Everything works on this car including the Air Conditioning. Original odometer was swapped out for US compliance when the car was imported with 7,439 miles, current odometer shows 1,679. Total miles are 9,118.” Can you imagine owning this car?! Needs the stock wheels on it though.

2004 Porsche Carrera GT – Offered at $299,950. After a while, I started going nuts. Looking for the baddest, most expensive Porsches listed. This one is unbelievable. Check out some of these details: “This two owner example surely fits the bill. It is finished in GT Silver over black and has been pampered from day one and sparingly driven less than 5,400 miles since new. All of its servicing is up to date and it comes with complete dealer maintenance history. Also included are the original handbooks, the original $448,300 window sticker, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, extra key, and clean CarFax. As you would expect, this Carrera GT is virtually spotless and in superb condition.”

This is just a small sampling of what you can find on Oddle.com. It’s not only a useful place to find a deal on just about any car you could possibly imagine, it’s a great place to fuel some of those dreams that remind us how much we love cars like Porsche.

The first Tempting Porsche today is one that strikes me as a great deal. It’s a 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera. Silver with black interior. 94,000 miles on it. Here are some details from the ad:

1999 Porsche Carrera Silver/Black Leather interior 94K miles, 6 speed manual trans, power seats, non smoker. Car is tight and drives beautifully. Upgraded performance software and Cold Air Intake Package.

Asking Price: $15,250

That’s a great deal on a fun car. I like the color and it’s tough to beat black interior in my mind. A heck of a lot of car for $15k. I’m not sure what a cold air intake package is. Maybe it’s something to do with the cold climate the car has lived in for the past few years. This car should sell fast.

Tempting Porsche #2

Number two today is a car I’ve never thought much about owning in the modern form. It’s a 2004 911 Targa. Black on black and 98,500 miles on it. Here’s a little more description:

Air conditioning; AM/FM stereo; Single CD player; Cruise control; Power steering; Power windows; Power door locks; Power seats; Leather seats; Tinted windows; Xenon high intensity lights; Driving/fog lights; Anti-lock brakes (ABS); Traction control; Dual front airbags; Front side airbags; Full Leather; Shift Kit; Big Exhaust; Targa Glass Roof

The one you have always wanted…This Porsche is in fantastic condition. It looks like a 30,000 mile car. It is fast, fun, super rare…Its been serviced and pampered and loved its whole life.

Asking Price: $27,990

I know this has quite a bit of mileage on it, but a 2004 911 anything for $27,990 seems like a great deal. I’m not sure if the Targa model is less desirable at all. In the Pacific Northwest, the current Targa should actually be MORE desirable given all the bad weather we get. Anything to let in a little more light on the gray days.

I’ve always had a bit of a fascination with older 911 Targas and would love to own one (leaky roofs and all). This car has actually made me reconsider a newer one. Be a steal if you could get this baby for $25k.

I’m continually amazed at the prices of 944 Turbos these days. If you find a decent one, that hasn’t been abused like so many 944s have, you can have yourself one heck of a car with a lot of power for not a lot of cash. This brings us to the first Tempting Porsche for today. It’s a 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo. Guards Red (a must have color) with black interior. It’s got 140k miles on it.

Here’s some info from the Craigslist ad:

1987 Porsche 944 Turbo. 140xxx freeway miles, 5 speed. Guards red with black leather interior. Very fast and fun to drive! Autothority stage 2 chips new front engine reseal with water pump, cam housing reseal with new lifters and new timing belt and rollers. Paint in good condition, only minor flaws, the car has spent all its life in a garage and has been babied. The interior is in excellent shape only a couple very minor cracks on the passenger side of the dash, otherwise in perfect condition Has a nice Kenwood cd player with I pod jack, and Bluetooth ready, 6 disc cd changer. The previous owner had the car for 13 years and was a Porsche technician. It is all stock accept for the pads/rotors and chips. I have 2 sets of wheels and tires for the car as well, and the factory car cover from Porsche, as well as all the maintenance records dating back to 1990.

Asking Price: $8900

I think this could be a great car at a great price. I passed a 944 on the road the other day and found myself reminiscing about my buddy’s 944 from the late 80′s. I’d love to own one some day and a 944 Turbo would probably be my choice.

Tempting Porsche #2

The second Tempting Porsche today is a Guards Red 911 Carrera Targa. It’s a 1985 with just over 91k miles on it. Looks like a nice car. Here are some specs from the Craigslist ad:

91,078. miles, RED with Black Leather Interior, Nicest one in town, NO Damage History, Very Nice, We are the second owners. This has been my wife’s car for the last 7 yrs and was driven only on sunny Sundays every once in a while. Has perfect maintenance, ALWAYS garaged, New clutch and rebuilt transmission, New tires and brakes. Absolutely the nicest one around. Garaged and flawless. Divorce forces sale.

Asking Price: $11488

Not a bad price given the other cars I’ve seen online the past few months with similar miles and time period. At least this one didn’t get beat to crap over the divorce (at least not visibly). As much as I love the whale tail on the 911 Turbo, I’ve never been a big fan of the tea tray spoiler. Always seemed a bit out of place to me without the flared fenders. This is a nice looking car though.

The first Tempting Porsche for today is a sweet Porsche 911 Carrera C2. It’s a 1999 with just over 58k miles on the odo. White with tan interior. Lots of people hate the dark wheels with the light/white exterior, but I personally think it makes these cars look amazing. White is such a boring color, but when you add a dark element like that, it really sets it off. I also like the spoiler on the back.

Here are some details from the ad:

White over Tan Leather, Dual Power Seats, Power Windows/Locks/Mirrors, Power Moonroof, Cassette Player and 6-Disc CD Changer, Color Crests in Seats, Porsche Floor Mats, Cruise Control, Tilt Wheel, AC and More.

Turbo front Clip and Side Skirts with Lit-Tronic Xenon Headlamps, GT3 Style Rear Spoiler and Bumper Cover, 19 Inch APP Forged Alloy Wheels, Complete Exhaust System – Headers Back, Cold Air Intake, Over $15K in Extras on this impeccable and truly beautiful 911/996

Low Miles, Cared for and in need of new home.

Asking Price: $26,990

Not a great deal, but an awesome looking car with fairly low mileage at a reasonable price. Speed Sports here in Portland, OR tends to have nice cars as well. Need to get over there to see some of these first hand. I love this car.

Tempting Porsche #2

The second Tempting Porsche is a 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera with a couple of cosmetic upgrades that I really like. It’s silver with gray interior and has 67,000 miles on it. What I love is the Aerokit Cup I package. Gives it the GT3 look.

Here are some more details from the Craigslist ad:

2001 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe
All service/ including recent 60k and A+ health-check/ no accidents
Full Aerokit Cup I package
Factory GT3 wheels, wing and exhaust
Touch screen navigation/ DVD/ blue-tooth phone/ CD/ MP3/ USB
Full leather option, including dash
Suede headliner and shifter
New high performance Pirelli P Zero tires, new brakes and rotors
6speed/ sunroof, xenon headlights, etc…
Great condition, (67k miles). Always garaged, locally (NW) purchased, owned and serviced.

Asking Price: $26,000/obo

Not a killer price, but a pretty nice setup and the car appears to be in great condition. This is one of those head turners for a pretty reasonable price. Be a fun car to own.

Alright, this is California dreamin for sure, but I couldn’t help but put these into a Tempting Porsches post. I happened on not one, but TWO Porsche 959s on Craigslist of all places. The Porsche 959 has always been one of the ultimate Porsches for me. Still is today.
Tempting Porsche #2

The second Tempting Porsche is an even rarer car. It’s a 1988 Porsche 959S. One of only 29 built. The S stands for the Sport package which included a full roll cage, sport seats with racing seat belts, and a race tuned suspension. This one is in red and only has 5,970 miles on it. It also has a few nice upgrades. Here are some details from the ad:

The first on the list today is a 1979 911SC. It’s got a light blue exterior and black interior. A tad over 96k miles on the odometer. Here’s a description from the ad:

Beautiful Lt. Blue over Black leather interior. CD player, Pager/Remote Alarm system, Power Windows, Power Door Locks, AC Blow Cold, Fans & Switches all Work Perfectly.

Good Rubber on Alloy Wheels, Starts without hesitation and runs great with good power, brakes feel firm and progressive and the steering in spot on. This is a true interpretation of what makes a 911 a 911…light feel in the drivers seat, great command and control of the road.

Asking Price: $14,990

I love the look of this car (just like that red one from earlier this week). It’s got all the classic lines of the 911 and would be a blast to own and drive. Everything looks to be in good shape from the pictures. It’s a gorgeous color too. There’s just a lot to love about this car.

Personally, I think it’s priced a little high for the market we’re in, especially given the time of year. I had great luck buying cars at the end of December last year, so this could turn out to be a great deal for someone walking in with cash.

Tempting Porsche #2

The second Tempting Porsche today is one that’s a bit different than what I usually choose. The biggest thing being it doesn’t have a picture, so it’s a bit of a crap shoot. It’s a 1975 911S in silver. Here’s what the ad has to say:

1975 911S Porsche – Silver
5 speed-has been stored
Pretty Original

Asking Price: $4,750

A stored car is never ideal, unless it was put away right. Even then, there’s just too many problems that can come up. If it hadn’t been stored for too long, it’s possible it could be a decent deal and, again, provides a lot of fun value for the money. Especially if you could talk the seller down a bit.

I still like the idea of an older Porsche and wouldn’t mind finding a car like this in decent condition that I could drive and enjoy, as well as tinker with a bit.
